Draw floor plans to scale

Straight lines, walls, circles and dimensions that snap into place. Type exact sizes, drop in doors and furniture.

Your designs

Handy to know

  • After you draw a shape it’s selected, ready to drag or resize — no need to switch tools. Lock the tool to draw several in a row.

  • Lines snap to the grid, to the ends and midpoints of other lines, and to 15° steps. Hold Alt to draw freely.

  • While drawing, type a number and press Enter for an exact length — 3600 for a 3.6 m wall in mm. Rectangles take 3600 x 2400.

  • Polylines, walls and curves: tap each corner, then double-tap or press Done. Tap the first point again to close the shape.

  • Switch the grid to isometric for axonometric drawings — lines lock to the three iso axes.

  • Keyboard: V select, L line, P polyline, W wall, R rectangle, C circle, A arc, S curve, T text, D dimension, E erase.

What's in the toolbox

Walls

Tap each corner, then double-tap or press Done. Tap the first point again to close the room. Set the wall thickness first; each new wall is drawn at it.

Lines, polylines, rectangles, circles

The basics for outlines, furniture you draw yourself, site boundaries and grids.

Arcs and curves

Door swings, bay windows, curved walls and landscaping.

Dimensions and text

Dimension lines show their length in the units you pick. Text is for room names, notes and titles.

Exact sizes

Everything is real size underneath, in centimetres, and you can show sizes in millimetres, centimetres or metres. While drawing, type a number and press Enter: 3600 gives a 3.6 m wall when you work in millimetres. Rectangles take both sides, like 3600 x 2400.

Lines snap to the grid, to the ends, midpoints and centres of other shapes, and to 15° steps. Hold Alt to draw freely for a moment.

Draw a floor plan in eight steps

  1. 1

Open a new design and set the units — millimetres are standard for plans.

  2. 2

Pick the Wall tool and set the wall thickness.

  3. 3

Draw the outside walls, typing each length and pressing Enter.

  4. 4

Add the inside walls; they snap to the ones you already drew.

  5. 5

Place doors and windows from the plan symbols.

  6. 6

Add beds, sofas, a kitchen run and bathroom fittings — all at real size.

  7. 7

    Add dimensions and room names.

  8. 8

Save, then download PNG or SVG, or export a scale PDF to print.

Four kinds of drawing

Plan

The view from above. Plan symbols: doors, windows, stairs, furniture, north arrow, scale bar.

Elevation

A straight-on view of a facade or wall. Elevation symbols: people, trees, cars, doors, windows.

Section

A vertical cut through the building. Section symbols: concrete, brick, earth and insulation hatches, slabs, footings.

Axonometric

Switch the grid to isometric and lines lock to the three iso axes. Axonometric pieces: massing blocks, stairs, furniture.

Export

  • PNG and SVG — free for saved designs. SVG opens in Illustrator, Inkscape and CAD tools that import SVG.
  • Scale PDF — on A4 or A3, from 1:1 to 1:1000 (1:50 and 1:100 are the usual ones for plans). Print at 100% and measure it with a scale ruler.
  • DXF — opens in AutoCAD, LibreCAD, Rhino and SketchUp, real size in millimetres.
  • The PDF and DXF are made on our server from your saved version and use a few credits; exporting the same version with the same settings again is free.

Questions

Is it free?

Drawing is free and needs no account. Saving a design uses a couple of credits, and you get free credits every day you sign in. PNG and SVG downloads of saved designs are free.

What scale is it drawn at?

Everything is real size underneath, in centimetres. Show sizes in mm, cm or m. Symbols are real size too, so a door is 90 wide and a double bed is 160 × 200.

Can I open my drawing in CAD or Illustrator?

Save the design, then export SVG — it opens in Illustrator, Inkscape and CAD tools that import SVG. For AutoCAD and similar apps, export a DXF; to print at 1:50 or 1:100, export a scale PDF.

Can I draw a floor plan on an iPad or a phone?

Yes. Every tool works by touch: tap corners to draw, pinch to zoom, drag with two fingers to move. A bigger screen is easier for large plans.

Can I use feet and inches?

Not yet — sizes are in millimetres, centimetres or metres.

Is there a 3D view?

No. You can draw axonometric (isometric) views on the iso grid, which look three-dimensional, but they're drawings, not a 3D model.
