Your sketches
Handy to know
Pinch to zoom. Drag with two fingers to move around the page.
Press harder with Apple Pencil or any stylus for a thicker line. Once you use a pen, fingers only move the page — rest your palm wherever.
On a keyboard: P pencil, B pen, M marker, E eraser, H hand. Hold Space to pan, Ctrl/⌘ + Z to undo.
Saved sketches can be downloaded as a PNG, cropped to what you drew.
The tools
Pencil, pen and marker
- Three brushes for loose lines, clean lines and broad strokes. Each has its own size, opacity and colour.
Eraser
- Rubs out just the part of a line you go over, not the whole stroke.
Hand
- Moves the page around. With a mouse, hold Space and drag; on a touch screen, drag with two fingers.
Paper
- Blank, dotted or squared. Dots are handy for diagrams, squares for keeping things in proportion.

Questions
Is it free?
- Drawing is free and needs no account. Saving a sketch uses a couple of credits, and you get free credits every day you sign in.
Where are my sketches saved?
- In your JotJam account, once you hit Save — so they're there on your phone, tablet and computer. Until then, your latest changes are kept as a draft in this browser only.
Does it work with Apple Pencil?
- Yes, and with other pressure-sensitive styluses: press harder for a thicker line. Once you've drawn with a pen, fingers only move and zoom the page, so resting your palm won't leave marks.
Can I draw on my phone?
- Yes. The canvas fills the screen; pinch to zoom in for detail and drag with two fingers to move around.
How do I download my sketch?
- Save it, then download it as a PNG. The image is cropped to what you drew, with a little margin.
Can I draw straight lines or add doors and furniture?
- Not on this pad — it's for freehand. Design has line, circle and wall tools, exact sizes and the symbol library.
